Hi, everyone, I’m Raw Stiles, a hip-hop/instrumental producer from Miami. Nefarious! was insane enough to give me access to his lovely blog, so I will be contributing my favorite finds of weird samples, inspiring artists and most importantly, underground music on a (hopefully) weekly basis.
For my inaugural post on The Soul Dojo, I thought it would be appropriate to feature arguably one of the most soulful artists of the hip-hop underground, the late Camu Tao. Mu’s life was tragically cut short in 2008 after a long battle with lung cancer. However, he left behind a beautiful work in progress entitled King of Hearts, which will be dropping August 17th on Definitive Jux/Fat Possum Records. You will notice that the song, like the rest of the album, is incredibly raw, unpolished, and unfinished. Evidently, Mu loved dropping his demos incredibly hot, but there’s a certain beauty you can find in the song’s quality.
